Ichthyol, also known as ichthammol, is a sulfur-rich natural substance that is mainly used in cosmetics to treat oily and problematic skin. It has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, making it effective in the treatment of acne, blackheads and other skin inflammations.
It soothes irritated skin, reduces redness and helps restore the skin's balance, which is why it is often found in products for acne and seborrheic skin.
